The Rx Foundation was founded on the idea of “a prescription for better health care”.
Rx Foundation grant partners are diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, age, and gender, as well as in geography, urban/rural locations, sector, and roles in and outside of healthcare.
The Rx Foundation makes grants to support initiatives, capacity building, and innovation related to our mission. Please refer to our Grants Database and our Grant Programs for more detailed information.
The Foundation does not make grants to or for:
- Individuals;
- For-profit entities;
- Biomedical or pharmaceutical research projects;
- Direct medical or program-based services;
- Endowments, capital projects, or event sponsorships;
- Research without implementation (white papers);
- Voter registration drives;
- Lobbying or partisan efforts to influence the outcomes of legislation or elections.
Most grants are between $25,000 – $150,000, depending on the grant program, scope of the project, organizational budget, and other key factors.
Most grants are for one to three years.
The Foundation does not consider unsolicited letters of inquiry or proposals, and rarely issues requests for proposals. You can, however, write a brief email describing your initiative to [email protected], including information about the people, activities, and partners involved in your work. If your initiative falls within the Rx Foundation’s current strategic priorities, we will contact you regarding next steps. Please note that we may not be able to respond to every inquiry on account of the sheer volume of unsolicited requests.
The Foundation makes grants to 501(c)(3), US-based, nonprofit organizations that align with our mission. Please refer to our Grant Programs for more information.
Yes, we make grants to fiscally-sponsored organizations. During the grant agreement phase, we will ask for a signed memorandum of understanding between the 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor and grant recipient organization, and make the grant to the fiscal sponsor.

The Foundation’s Board of Trustees makes all grantmaking decisions.
The Foundation makes grant decisions on a rolling basis throughout the calendar year.
The Foundation limits its funding of indirect costs to 10% of the total grant budget.
