In partnership with Alabama Values, Rx Foundation partner Alabama Arise recently announced the launch of Think Big Alabama: Empowering Voices for Change, a four-part advocacy training program with the intention of empowering underserved and underrepresented communities in the state of Alabama.
Think Big Alabama is focused on educating and empowering communities about issues that directly impact their lives. This program will take research findings from the Think Big learning community and transform them into actionable steps for advocacy and change.
Alabama Arise: Grant Partner Spotlight Video
Alabama Arise is a grant partner of the Rx Foundation’s Building Capacity for Health Advocacy program – an initiative that supports advocacy, organizing, and civic engagement, with a focus on strengthening leaders, organizations, and networks. Since 2019, the Rx Foundation has supported Alabama Arise in its efforts to increase the capacity and infrastructure for proactive organizing and advocacy for policies to improve the health and well-being of people in Alabama.
Alabama Arise and Alabama Values will combine their missions and areas of expertise to create an effective, supportive, and dynamic learning environment for their participants to thrive and become powerful advocates for their communities. Through their programming, participants will hone their storytelling skills and practice tools and strategies to advocate for meaningful policy changes. Not only will participants leave Think Big Alabama with advanced advocacy skills and a better understanding of how to navigate the legislative landscape, they will also walk away with concrete action plans to address specific state or local issues that matter most to them.
PC Think Big Alabama
The Think Big Alabama sessions will take place both in-person and virtually between July 13, 2024 and August 24, 2024. The sessions will initially cover the intersection of media, policy and grassroots organizing and fostering an environment of collaboration and community engagement, and will then expand into narrative building, policy advocacy, and media strategies.

The launch of Think Big Alabama is just one of countless resources Alabama Arise offers to their community members; and another way to meaningfully engage the voices of faith-based, community, nonprofit and civic groups, grassroots leaders and individuals from all across Alabama in creating solutions. On their website you can find fact sheets, handbooks, reports, newsletters, and blogs about issues such as criminal justice, health, housing, payday & title lending reform, public transportation, safety net, tax reform, economic opportunity, voting rights, COVID-19, and Medicaid expansion.
In addition to learning resources, Alabama Arise provides opportunities for hands-on action to its members in order to help implement change in their communities. Alabama Arise is a statewide, member-led organization with 155 member groups that are joined together to help make a difference in Alabama and advocate for a future where all citizens of Alabama have equal opportunity and access, regardless of their income or background.
